The in-house restaurant Mural is a Gastronomic hotspot in the centre of Munich's old town.
Michelin-starred cuisine and an urban art museum - how do they go together, you ask? The Mural and the MUCA bring art to life: one presents art on the plate, the other on the wall.
The name of the restaurant, Mural, was deliberately chosen in reference to its location, thus creating a further link to our museum. "Mural" is the English term for "mural" or "wall painting".
Inside the restaurant, there are numerous works of art on the walls, designed for example by Stencil artist L.E.T. (see below) and Graffiti artist L'Atlas. The mural also offers an excellent view of the large wall of the inner courtyard, which is always designed and painted by the artists for the respective exhibitions.
MURAL im MUCA is located in the centre of Munich, right next to Marienplatz and not far from Maximilianstraße.
Nevertheless, the restaurant is an insider tip away from the crowds, as it is located in a very quiet location in Hotterstraße, in the old transformer station with its industrial character. At Mural, you can expect first-class, Michelin-starred cuisine in a relaxed, modern atmosphere.
Hospitality is not just an empty phrase here, it is lived by the team. Mural makers Moritz Meyn and Wolfgang Hingerl were named "Restaurateurs of the Year 2022" by trade magazine Rolling Pin. A visit to the MUCA Museum rounds off the experience for all the senses.
Eat Local. Drink NaturalThe team led by head chef Joshua Leise lives the credo of the Michelin-starred restaurant and creates Complex and always surprising flavour experiences from selected regional products.
Mural sommelier (and managing director) Wolfgang Hingerl will be serving up high-quality food to match the menu. Highest quality wines and sparkling wines from numerous wine regions of the world.
The furnishings of the MURAL are deliberately kept simple and thus emphasise the Industrial character of the former transformer station. The industrial design of the location with concrete on the walls and floor is continued on metal tables with concrete tops without tablecloths. The food is served on handmade tableware and the cutlery is placed on slate slabs.
In this environment with clear lines and no chichi, you can fully immerse yourself in the colours, scents and smells of the fine food on your plate and first-class wines in your glass.
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room and the terrace, which is open for lunch, wine bar and dinner in good weather, enjoy the view of the MUCA Wall. Here you can currently admire the largest "Spot Painting" by Damien Hirst with 1,000 square metres and 540 different colour circles.
In the Mural kitchen, ingredients sustainably produced by regional producers and grown on the farm are reduced to pure flavour. This natural flavour with all its nuances always at the centre of the dishes. Short supply chains and Growing your own ingredients support the sustainable approach of the restaurant in the centre of the city.
The focus of the drinks selection is on naturally produced wine from exceptional winegrowers with whom the Mural team maintains personal contacts. With a total of 1,100 items, the Mural's wine list is one of the largest in Munich.
