Under the title "UNVEILING", the MUCA has once again been showing highlights from its permanent collection at its Munich location since 2 January 2026.
The basement of the main building was remodelled to create new rooms for special works from the extraordinary collection - including outstanding representatives of urban and contemporary art, such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Keith Haring, Invader, Antony Micallef, Kusama, Swoonand much more.
The MUCA collection began in 1998 with the first works attributable to pop and street art culture. In the course of the MUCA's development, it has been expanded to include important international artists.
Today, the MUCA collection includes important works by artists from the fields of urban and contemporary art. It comprises over 1,200 objects and works, of which selected exhibits will be shown for the last time in the Anniversary exhibition "25 Years were to be seen.
The MUCA's permanent exhibition offers over a quarter of a century of insights into the most important representatives of contemporary art of the 21st century.
In addition, parts of the collection have been "touring" Asia since 2024 and are on display in selected co-operation museums in Japan and Korea.
The core collection includes artists who became known in the 2000s. At that time, many of these artists were up-and-coming newcomers.
"Today, we can say with great pride that they are established, international figures in the contemporary art world"says museum founder and collector Christian Utz.
Many artists have been influenced by various movements, ranging from Pop Art and figurative painting to graffiti and socio-political art.
The MUCA is a leading authority in collection building and houses important artworks by artists known for utilising the urban landscape as part of their working process.
MUCA founders Stephanie and Christian Utz's long-standing passion for collecting has resulted in unique positions, allowing visitors to MUCA to see works from this seismic movement that have captured the imagination of millions of people around the world.
"In the course of the museum's development, we have expanded the collection to include important international artists from the last three decades. The focus is on categorising these artists and those already represented in our collection in the wider context of contemporary art of the 21st century"says Stephanie Utz, co-founder of the MUCA.
Since the museum's beginnings, it has always been the founders' aim to share the collection with the public. On the one hand as a permanent exhibition on site at the MUCA Museum in Hotterstraße, and on the other hand with exhibition concepts that are shown in co-operating museums worldwide.
Another concern of the founders is to collection digitally and thus barrier-free. This with a virtual insight into selected works on this website, as well as through the Free MUCA Museum App.
There will also be a "media room" in the basement of the museum from Februarywhere visitors can immerse themselves interactively in the world of street and urban art.
At this point we would like to thank the State Office for the Non-State Museums in Bavariawhose support was instrumental in realising this extensive project.
